Princess Water Lily’s Secret

About GabrielleI would like to write a blog that is late…

I would like to reveal to you “Princess Water Lily’s Secret” which I mentioned in a previous blog.

This is her “secret” story…

If you recall, Princess Water Lily came to our Sanctuary two years ago to be with her good friend, Chief Thumper.

They had known each other at the house they lived in before coming to live in our Hoop House here at our Sanctuary.

Princess Water Lily was so happy to be reunited with Chief Thumper.  He was so happy to see her again.

Dreamcatcher

They were waiting for “The Dream Catcher” to appear so they could take children on many adventures.

Being late writing about Princess Water Lily’s Secret happened because I had to take time away for very important personal reasons.

So, now, even though I am late,  I want to tell you Princess Water Lily’s Secret because her secret needs to be told.

I want everyone to know how special she has always been from the first day I met her.

Princess Water Lily had a very hard life before going to temporarily live in the house with Chief Thumper and then eventually to our Sanctuary here where she reunited with him.

As I was told by her interim caretakers, she was a girl bunny that was in a “bunny mill”.

She was on a sad-go-round.

She was bred constantly in order to produce lots of little bunnies to be sold in the market place.

Princess Water Lily had no choice in the matter.  However, she made the best of her life because she was a brave little rabbit.

More importantly, I was told that she loved all the baby bunnies she birthed so much that she would pull all of her hair out to make beds for them to keep them warm and safe.  For years she had no bunny hair.

She did this over and over without a thought for herself or her welfare or her own warmth.

How much can a little blue-eyed, white Polish bunny give of herself over several years without her physical energy being all used up?

She didn’t care…all she knew was she loved all the little baby bunnies that she nurtured and mothered.

She gave and gave and gave of herself over the years like a good mother does.

Finally, she came here to the Sanctuary as an older bunny in poor condition with her feet all raw from having been stationary in her own watery waste.

She was small and frail.  She needed a lot of tender care and love.

She needed a long rest.

She also needed her favorite treat…lots of orange carrots.

She waited everyday for her two orange carrots that Autumn Gold brought her and Thumper in their bunny hutch.autumn

She healed physically and emotionally.  Her tiny paws healed completely, too.

She finally was happy being with Chief Thumper, her best friend, eating fresh carrots and living in the Hoop House waiting for “The Dream Catcher” to appear.

She didn’t have to be a “mother bunny” anymore.

She now was a “star”…She was christened “Princess” Water Lily and she always had daily adventures with Chief Thumper in the Hoop House and bunny hutch.

Even though she had been a wonderful mother, she was just happy to have her own adventure with Chief Thumper everyday.

She loved laying in the sun in her summer bunny house.

She loved drinking fresh water.

She loved the rabbit food with the special treats that were added…the plain pellets wouldn’t do.

She loved visiting with her chicken friends as they passed her bunny hutch everyday.

She finally was at peace with Chief Thumper by her side enjoying the good life.

So that is her secret

She was a “Great Mother” even though her circumstances during her younger years weren’t great.

She was also a good friend and companion to Chief Thumper.

She was, in fact, a “Honey of a Bunny” that was sweet, kind, and gentle.

Sadly, I must report, Princess Water Lily’s life ended in her winter bunny house here at the Sanctuary on January 28th.

She just lay down and “let go” into a happy bunny dream place.

I would like to post a tribute in song to Princess Water Lily who, I’m sure spread her wings and flew here from a star, was a star in life and will always be a star here at the Sanctuary with her kind spirit she left behind.

Now, Chief Thumper is alone.  Thumper

I found him right next to her limp little white frame.  He seemed so sad knowing she was no longer there.

Happily, she had two years filled with lots of adventures.

Most of all, she got to spend two very fun-filled adventure-years with Chief Thumper, her very best friend.

Here is one of those adventure’s below…

as they listen to a Snowman singing in Espanol:)
